1.2 Million Lebanese Flee Homes as Israel Launches Ground Invasion

Israeli military operations have displaced up to 1.2 million Lebanese civilians, creating a massive humanitarian crisis in a country of just over 5 million people. The displacement represents nearly 20% of Lebanon's entire population.

The exodus was triggered by numerous Israeli evacuation orders and waves of intensive bombing across southern Lebanon, parts of the Bekaa Valley, and southern suburbs of Beirut. Israeli forces have launched a ground invasion targeting Iran-backed Hezbollah forces operating in the region.

Many families are experiencing repeated trauma, having been forced to flee multiple times in recent months as the conflict has escalated. Lebanon already hosts the world's highest number of refugees per capita, making the additional burden of internal displacement particularly challenging.

Human Rights Watch has called Israel's displacement of civilians a possible war crime, citing the scale and scope of the forced evacuations. The organization noted that the attacks and threat of future strikes have caused more than a million people to abandon their homes.
