At least 66 tornadoes struck across multiple Midwest states on Friday in a major severe weather outbreak. The National Weather Service confirmed the tornado reports as storms moved from the Great Lakes region down to Texas.
Communities began cleanup efforts on Saturday after the storms left a path of damage and destruction. Southern Minnesota was hit particularly hard, with three confirmed tornadoes touching down south of the Twin Cities area.
The National Weather Service confirmed EF2 tornadoes in Ottawa and Hillsdale, Kansas, along with an EF1 tornado in Linn County. EF2 tornadoes have winds between 111-135 mph and can cause considerable damage to homes and buildings.
Residents across Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin started assessing damage and cleaning up debris. The storms affected areas from southern Minnesota down through the central plains.
