Olympic track legend Allyson Felix is planning a comeback at age 40 to compete in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. She and her coach Bobby Kersee will start full training in October and target a return to competition in 2027.
Felix won't compete regularly on the global track circuits. Instead, she plans to enter select races in hopes of qualifying for the Olympic trials.
Felix is already the most decorated woman in track and field history. She has won 11 Olympic medals across five Olympic Games from 2004 to 2021. She retired after the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.
The 2028 Olympics will be held in Los Angeles, Felix's home region. This gives her extra motivation to attempt the difficult comeback at an age when most sprinters have long since retired.
If successful, Felix would become one of the oldest Olympic sprinters in history. Her return could also add to her already record-breaking medal count.
Felix already holds the record for most Olympic medals by any woman in track and field. A successful comeback would make her one of the oldest Olympic sprinters ever and could inspire athletes who think their careers are over.
Felix starts full training in October 2026 and plans to return to competition in 2027 ahead of Olympic trials.
