The first electric trucks are already delivering packages between Amazon warehouses in Britain. Nicola Fyfe, Amazon's EU Vice President of Logistics, called it "a major milestone in our journey to decarbonise our UK transportation network."
Amazon currently operates more than 13,500 custom electric delivery vans across the United States. The company has set a goal to have 100,000 electric delivery vehicles in service by 2030, making it one of the largest commercial electric vehicle fleets in the world.
By working with multiple manufacturers like Einride, Rivian, and Mercedes, Amazon is spreading its bets rather than relying on a single supplier. This approach helps ensure steady vehicle deliveries while pushing different companies to innovate and compete on price and features.
Amazon delivers millions of packages daily, so switching to electric trucks could significantly reduce air pollution and carbon emissions. The move also signals growing demand for electric commercial vehicles, which could accelerate the shift away from diesel trucks on highways.
