Brighton Plans Europe's First Purpose-Built Women's Stadium
Brighton & Hove Albion released plans for Europe's first purpose-built women's football stadium. The venue will have at least 10,000 seats and is scheduled to open by the 2030-31 season.

Brighton & Hove Albion released plans Tuesday for what will be Europe's first purpose-built women's football stadium. The venue will seat at least 10,000 people and is scheduled to open by the 2030-31 season.
"The prospect of a bespoke stadium, built exclusively for women's players, staff and supporters, is incredibly exciting," said Zoe Johnson, the club's managing director of women's and girls' football.
The stadium will be one of only three purpose-built women's football stadiums worldwide. Most women's teams currently play in stadiums originally designed for men's teams, which can create challenges for everything from locker room facilities to fan atmosphere.
Brighton's announcement comes as women's football continues to grow rapidly in popularity across Europe. Purpose-built facilities are seen as crucial for the sport's continued development and professionalization.
The club has not yet announced the exact location or total cost of the project.
This marks a major step forward for women's sports. Most women's teams currently play in stadiums built for men's teams, which often don't meet their specific needs for facilities, fan experience, and atmosphere.
Brighton will need to secure planning approval and finalize construction details before the 2030-31 season opening.
