Broncos Select Buffalo's Red Murdock as 'Mr. Irrelevant' in 2026 NFL Draft
The Denver Broncos selected Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock with the 257th and final pick of the 2026 NFL Draft on Saturday. This makes Murdock the 51st 'Mr. Irrelevant' in NFL history.

The Denver Broncos closed out the 2026 NFL Draft by selecting Buffalo linebacker Red Murdock as 'Mr. Irrelevant' on Saturday. The nickname goes to the final pick each year and was first used in 1976.
Murdock enters the NFL with impressive college credentials. During his career at Buffalo, he forced 17 fumbles, breaking the NCAA record previously held by Khalil Mack, who went on to become an NFL star.
The 'Mr. Irrelevant' title might sound insulting, but several last picks have made meaningful NFL careers. Being drafted at all puts Murdock among roughly 250 players chosen each year from thousands of college hopefuls.
The Broncos also selected running back Jonah Coleman, offensive lineman Kage Casey, tight end Justin Joly, and safety Miles in earlier rounds on Saturday.
While being the last pick seems disappointing, many 'Mr. Irrelevant' players have gone on to successful NFL careers. Murdock broke an NCAA record held by former NFL star Khalil Mack, showing he has real talent despite being picked last.
Murdock will attend Broncos training camp this summer to compete for a roster spot.
