Byron Allen's 'Comics Unleashed' Replaces Stephen Colbert on CBS Starting May 22
Byron Allen's comedy show "Comics Unleashed" will replace "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" on CBS starting May 22. Colbert's final show airs May 21 after 11 years hosting the late-night slot.
CBS announced Monday that Byron Allen's "Comics Unleashed" will take over the network's 11:35 p.m. weeknight time slot starting Friday, May 22. Stephen Colbert will host his final "Late Show" on May 21, ending his 11-year run.
Allen, a media mogul and comedian, will actually get two shows on CBS. "Comics Unleashed" moves to the 11:35 p.m. slot, while his game show "Funny You Should Ask" takes the 12:35 a.m. spot that currently belongs to late-night programming.
Colbert took over the "Late Show" in 2015, becoming known for his sharp political comedy and celebrity interviews. His departure represents a significant change for CBS's late-night lineup.
Allen built his career as a stand-up comedian before becoming a media entrepreneur. He owns Entertainment Studios, which produces multiple TV shows and has been expanding into major media properties in recent years.
This marks a major shift in late-night TV, replacing one of television's biggest political comedy voices. Millions of viewers who tune in at 11:35 p.m. will see a completely different style of comedy show.
Colbert's final show airs May 21. Allen's new CBS shows start May 22.
