Instead, the Chiefs secured Nussmeier's rights by using their final pick. If things work out, Kansas City could end a five-season drought of developing quarterbacks through the draft system.
The Chiefs added depth behind their starting quarterback while preventing other teams from signing Nussmeier as a free agent. This could help Kansas City end a five-season streak without developing a backup quarterback through the draft.
