Disney Expands ESPN to 50+ Countries in Europe and Asia-Pacific
Disney is bringing ESPN sports content to Disney+ subscribers in more than 50 countries across Europe and Asia-Pacific. The expansion builds on Disney's earlier rollout of ESPN in Australia and New Zealand this year.
Disney is expanding ESPN sports content to Disney+ subscribers in more than 50 countries across Europe and Asia-Pacific regions. The move puts all of Disney's content under one streaming platform instead of forcing customers to juggle multiple subscriptions.
Earlier this year, Disney brought ESPN to Disney+ in Australia and New Zealand, marking the sports brand's first appearance on the service in the Asia-Pacific region. Luke Kang, president of Disney Asia Pacific, confirmed the company wants to add more live sports to Disney+ and gradually roll out ESPN across Asia.
The expansion is part of Disney's bigger plan to simplify how people access its content. Instead of having separate apps and subscriptions for movies, TV shows, and sports, Disney wants to offer everything through Disney+ as a single hub.
Disney faces tough competition from other streaming services like Netflix, Amazon Prime, and local sports broadcasters in these regions. By bundling sports with entertainment content, Disney hopes to keep subscribers longer and attract new ones who want both movies and live games.
Disney+ subscribers in these regions will get more sports content without paying extra for another streaming service. This makes Disney+ a bigger competitor to other streaming platforms by bundling movies, shows, and live sports in one place.
Disney will continue rolling out ESPN across more Asian markets as it works to add live sports content to Disney+.
