Dolphins GM: De'Von Achane 'Not Available' for Trade
Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan said Wednesday that star running back De'Von Achane is "not available" for a trade. The team wants to sign Achane to a contract extension instead.
Miami Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan made it clear Wednesday that the team has no plans to trade running back De'Von Achane. Sullivan called the Pro Bowl player "not available" and said extending his contract is a top priority.
The announcement comes less than a month after Miami traded wide receiver Jaylen Waddle to Denver for a first-round pick. But Sullivan doesn't want Achane to follow the same path out of Miami.
"My job is always to listen," Sullivan told reporters during the NFL's annual meeting. "Achane is a very, very, very important piece of what we're going to do."
Achane has emerged as one of the league's most explosive players since joining the Dolphins. His speed and playmaking ability make him valuable to Miami's offense.
The running back did not report to voluntary team activities in April, which often signals contract negotiations. Sullivan's comments suggest the Dolphins want to lock up their young star long-term rather than risk losing him.
This shows the Dolphins are committed to keeping their top offensive weapon, even as other teams likely want to trade for the Pro Bowl player. It signals Miami's plan to build around young talent rather than sell off stars.
