Drake Lindsey Takes First-Team Reps as Minnesota Gophers QB Competition Heats Up

Drake Lindsey is emerging as the frontrunner for Minnesota's starting quarterback job after impressive showings in spring practice. The quarterback has been taking the majority of first-team reps and looked comfortable leading the offense during early March sessions.

During Tuesday's open practice, Lindsey showcased his arm strength with a connection to safety Koi Perich that traveled at least 60 yards in the air. Coaches and observers noted Lindsey's ability to make effortless throws down the field throughout the practice session.

The Gophers are competing with Georgia Tech transfer Zach Pyron for the starting position, but early signs point to Lindsey having the inside track. The team will hold 15 total practices over the next month, giving both quarterbacks time to prove themselves.

Minnesota's spring practice period will culminate with the spring game on Saturday, April 25 at Huntington Bank Stadium. The defensive line also stood out during the open practice, showing promise for the upcoming season.
