Europe Has 6 Weeks of Jet Fuel Left as Iran War Blocks Oil Supplies
Europe has about six weeks of jet fuel left before flights could be cancelled, the International Energy Agency warned. The Iran war has effectively shut down the Strait of Hormuz, blocking oil shipments from the Gulf region.
The head of the International Energy Agency delivered a stark warning about Europe's fuel crisis. Fatih Birol told the Associated Press that Europe has "maybe six weeks or so" of jet fuel remaining.
The shortage stems from the Iran war, which has blocked ships from passing through the Strait of Hormuz. This narrow waterway normally carries crucial oil supplies from Gulf countries to Europe and other regions.
Birol warned that major economic problems are coming soon for Europe and parts of Asia if the shipping route stays closed. Airlines may have no choice but to cancel flights once fuel stocks run dry.
