Gallery-dl Media Scraper Moves to Codeberg After DMCA Takedown Notice

Gallery-dl, a widely-used media downloading tool, received a DMCA takedown notice from FAKKU, LLC targeting its code repository on GitHub. The notice specifically mentioned the NHentai extractor component of the software, along with similar takedown requests sent to 28 other repositories.

Gallery-dl is an open-source command-line program that lets users download images, videos, and other media from hundreds of websites. People use it to save content for offline viewing, archiving, or personal collections.

The software's developers announced they are moving the project to Codeberg, an alternative code hosting platform, to continue development without interruption. Other similar projects have successfully made this transition after facing DMCA issues on GitHub.
