The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) now controls key decisions through Iran's Supreme National Security Council, sources told ABC News. Two men have emerged as the most important figures: Mohammad Bagher Zolghadr, the new head of Iran's National Security Council, and Ahmad Vahidi, the new IRGC commander-in-chief.

Zolghadr helped found the Quds Force, a controversial branch of Iran's military that operates in other countries. This background suggests Iran's new leadership may take a more aggressive approach to regional conflicts.

President Trump has claimed this represents "regime change" in Iran. However, security officials say the shift is more about power spreading among different factions rather than a complete government overhaul. The gap between different groups within Iran's government has also narrowed, making decisions more collaborative.

This change means Iran's Supreme Leader no longer has centralized control over major policy decisions. Instead, military commanders and security officials now share power in ways that could reshape Iran's approach to nuclear negotiations and Middle East conflicts.
