Iran responded by closing the Strait of Hormuz, a critical shipping route that handles about 20% of the world's oil supply. Qatar condemned what it called Israel's "brutal series of airstrikes" across Lebanon.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the original ceasefire "will bring a moment of relief to the region and the world" as he heads to the Middle East for diplomatic talks.
This conflict threatens global oil supplies as Iran controls a key shipping route through the Strait of Hormuz. The breakdown of ceasefire talks could lead to wider war in the Middle East, affecting gas prices and potentially drawing the US military deeper into the region.
