Jake Reiner Shares How He Learned of Parents Rob and Michele's Murders: 'My World Had Collapsed'
Jake Reiner, 34, wrote about the moment he learned his parents Rob and Michele Reiner were murdered on December 14. He was at a friend's memorial service when he got the news.
Jake Reiner broke his silence about his parents' deaths in an emotional essay posted online. The 34-year-old son of filmmaker Rob Reiner described the exact moment his life changed forever.
On December 14, Jake was at Union Station attending a celebration of life for his best friend Christian. That's when he learned both his parents had been murdered.
"My world, as I knew it, had collapsed," Jake wrote. "I was in a trance. The only thing I could focus on was that I needed to get to my childhood home. I needed to get to my sister."
Jake described taking a 45-minute Lyft ride from downtown to the west side as "unendurable." His only thought was reaching his childhood home and his sister during the crisis.
Rob Reiner was known for directing movies like "When Harry Met Sally" and "A Few Good Men." He was also an actor who played Mike Stivic on the TV show "All in the Family."
The tragic story shows how violence can destroy families in an instant. It also highlights the ongoing grief families face after losing loved ones to murder.
More details about the murder investigation may emerge as Jake's family continues to grieve.
