Jenna Ortega Almost Quit Acting Before Netflix 'You' Role Saved Career
Jenna Ortega revealed she was seriously considering quitting acting after her Disney Channel show ended in 2018, until she landed a role in Netflix's 'You.' The now-famous actress said on Kid Cudi's podcast that she told her team 'it was a good run' and discussed calling it quits for months.
Jenna Ortega came shockingly close to walking away from acting entirely before becoming one of Hollywood's hottest young stars. Speaking on Kid Cudi's 'Big Bro' podcast, the 22-year-old actress revealed she seriously considered quitting after her 2016-2018 run on Disney Channel's 'Stuck in the Middle' ended.
'It just felt like a good time to call it quits if I was going to,' Ortega said. 'I was starting high school, and, it was a good run sort of thing. We had talked about it for a few months with my team.' She admitted she didn't know what else she would do with her life, having never really considered anything outside of acting.
The turning point came when she landed the role of Ellie Alves in Netflix's psychological thriller 'You.' That role helped launch her into stardom, leading to her breakout performance as Wednesday Addams in Netflix's 'Wednesday' series and major film roles including the 'Scream' franchise.
Interestingly, Ortega's co-stars from 'Scream 6' apparently didn't know about her near-exit from acting, with some surprised to learn she had considered pursuing soccer as an alternative career path during her brief period of doubt.
Ortega's story shows how close Hollywood came to losing one of its biggest young stars. She's now the lead in hit shows like 'Wednesday' and major movies, proving how one role can completely change a career path.
Ortega continues filming upcoming projects and promoting her recent work in major franchises.
