Kanye West postponed his June 11 concert in Marseille, France after local officials announced they would try to block him from performing. The rapper announced the delay on social media Tuesday night.
French officials said they intended to stop West from performing at the scheduled show. Marseille mayor Benoît Payan wrote on March 4 that "Kanye West is not welcome at the Vélodrome, our temple of living together and belonging to all Marseillais."
The move follows similar action in the United Kingdom, where West was reportedly banned from entering the country for the Wireless Festival in July. France appears to be following the UK's lead in restricting the artist's performances.
West, who now goes by Ye, has faced mounting criticism and career consequences over controversial statements in recent years. The Marseille concert was part of his planned tour activities.
This shows how Kanye's controversial statements continue to hurt his career worldwide. Artists who make inflammatory comments may face growing restrictions on where they can perform and earn money.
Watch to see if West reschedules the Marseille show or faces similar bans in other countries on his tour.
