Louisville RB Braxton Jennings Earns Scholarship After Walk-On Breakout
Louisville running back Braxton Jennings earned a football scholarship after starting as a walk-on player last season. The sophomore rushed for 113 yards on just three carries in one game, earning MVP honors.

Louisville running back Braxton Jennings has earned a scholarship after proving himself as a walk-on player during his freshman season. The Ashland, Kentucky native joined the Cardinals without a scholarship guarantee.
Jennings broke out with an incredible performance, rushing for 113 yards on just three carries in one game. That showing earned him MVP honors and eventually led to his scholarship offer.
The sophomore had to step up big time last season when injuries hit Louisville's running back room. With all four scholarship running backs hurt, Jennings got the start against Kentucky as a true freshman walk-on.
Over the season, he rushed for 87 yards on 17 carries with one touchdown. He also made his debut against Eastern Kentucky, running for 27 yards on six carries and catching a pass.
'I just knew I had something to prove, and I carried that every day throughout practice and throughout game week,' Jennings said about his mindset as a walk-on player.
Jennings' story shows how walk-on players can still make it in college football without an initial scholarship. His success gives hope to other young athletes who don't get recruited out of high school.
Jennings will continue building his role in Louisville's offense during his sophomore season.
