Michael Sheen and Callum Scott Howells Star in West End 'Amadeus' Revival
Michael Sheen and Callum Scott Howells will star as rival composers Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in a new West End production of 'Amadeus.' This marks the first major revival of the classic play in over a decade.
Michael Sheen and Callum Scott Howells are set to take on the iconic roles of Antonio Salieri and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in Peter Shaffer's acclaimed play 'Amadeus.' The production will mark the first major West End revival of the work in more than ten years.
Sheen brings significant experience to the role, having previously played Mozart in the 1999 Broadway revival of the same play. That performance helped establish his reputation with American audiences after years of success on the London stage.
Howells, meanwhile, is building momentum in his career with several high-profile projects. He's currently appearing in the West End revival of Arthur Miller's 'A View from the Bridge' at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, and has a Netflix film called 'Beautiful Game' about the Homeless World Cup coming out next month.
The pairing represents a unique milestone as the first time two Welsh actors have taken on both lead roles in the same production of 'Amadeus.' The play tells the story of the bitter rivalry between the court composer Salieri and the brilliant but brash young Mozart.
This revival brings back one of theater's most famous stories about artistic rivalry and jealousy. It's also notable as the first time two Welsh actors have played both lead roles in the same production.
Production details including theater venue and performance dates have not yet been announced.
