Mother Seeks Justice Two Years After Son Emeshyon Wilkins Shot by St. Louis Police

Two years have passed since Emeshyon Wilkins was shot and killed by a St. Louis police officer, but his mother Shaina Wilkins says she's still waiting for justice and a full explanation of what happened to her 17-year-old son.

Body camera video from the incident shows Emeshyon was shot in the back of the head. The footage appears to contradict the police department's earlier account of the shooting, raising new questions about what really happened that day.

"I'm still waiting, I need answers," Shaina Wilkins told CBS affiliate KMOV. She believes her son "should still be here" and says police "just treated him so badly." The mother has not received a complete explanation of the events that led to her son's death.

Advocates say the body camera footage shows there was "no gun, no threat" when the teen was killed. They argue the case demonstrates the need for greater police accountability and transparency in officer-involved shootings.

"The family needs answers, and the only way answers can be given is if there is justice that is open and transparent," said one advocate working with the family.
