The announcement came with a short teaser posted to Instagram. In the clip, familiar characters Mike, Dustin, Will, Eleven, Max and Lucas investigate a truck that crashed in the snow. Though the teaser doesn't reveal what they discover, Dustin calls it "a haunting in Hawkins."
The animated series takes place in winter 1985 in the fictional town of Hawkins, where the characters face fresh mysteries and "an all-new breed of strange," according to Netflix's description. Season 2 will continue following the beloved heroes alongside newcomer Nikki Baxter.
The quick renewal reflects Netflix's confidence in the Stranger Things universe, which has become one of the platform's biggest hits since the original series launched in 2016.
