Péter Magyar Pushes for Quick Power Transfer After Defeating Viktor Orbán
Péter Magyar, who defeated Viktor Orbán in Hungary's election, is pushing for the fastest possible transfer of power. He wants the new parliament to meet in early May and called on Hungary's president to form a new government quickly.

Three days after his landslide election victory, Hungary's Prime Minister-elect Péter Magyar is demanding a rapid handover of power from Viktor Orbán, who ruled the country for 16 continuous years.
Magyar met with Hungary's president and called for parliament to convene as early as May to form the new government. He specifically asked President Tamas Sulyok to ensure the transfer happens as soon as possible.
The election result marks a dramatic shift for Hungary, which has been at odds with the European Union over democratic backsliding under Orbán's rule. Magyar has promised to unlock billions in EU funds that were frozen due to concerns about Hungary's democracy and rule of law.
Magyar also repeated his demand that President Sulyok, who was backed by Orbán's Fidesz party, should resign. The president typically plays a ceremonial role but oversees the transition process between governments.
Hungary has been ruled by the same leader for 16 years, often clashing with the European Union over democracy and human rights. A quick government change could mean faster access to billions in blocked EU funds and a shift toward more democratic policies.
Parliament is expected to convene in early May to officially form Magyar's new government.
