Reed Hastings Leaves Netflix Board in June After 29 Years

Reed Hastings will step down from Netflix's board of directors when his term expires at the company's annual meeting in June, ending a remarkable 29-year journey with the streaming pioneer he co-founded.
Hastings currently serves as Netflix's chairman after previously serving as CEO. He transformed the company from a scrappy DVD-by-mail subscription service in the 1990s into a globe-spanning Hollywood powerhouse that now reaches hundreds of millions of subscribers worldwide.
Netflix said in a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission that Hastings' decision to not seek re-election was "not as a result of any disagreement" with the company. According to the company, Hastings plans to focus on "philanthropy and other pursuits" after leaving the board.
The departure comes as Netflix continues to navigate a competitive streaming landscape, with the company recently backing away from a planned acquisition of Warner Bros. and dealing with stock fluctuations after earnings reports.
