Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell Join Brad Bird's Animated Film 'Ray Gunn'
Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, and Tom Waits have joined the voice cast of director Brad Bird's new animated movie 'Ray Gunn.' The film is being made by Skydance Animation and will premiere on Netflix this year.
Academy Award winner Sam Rockwell will voice the main character, detective Raymond 'Ray' Gunn, in the upcoming animated film. Scarlett Johansson plays a glamorous pop star character whose case draws the detective into the story's main mystery.
The movie is set in Metropia, a giant city in an alternate future as imagined in 1939. It's a sci-fi noir story that director Brad Bird has wanted to make for decades. Bird previously directed hit animated films like 'The Incredibles' and 'Ratatouille.'
John Ratzenberger, who has worked with Bird before on other projects, is also part of the voice cast. Tom Waits rounds out the announced cast members.
Skydance Animation is producing the film, which represents a major animated project for Netflix as streaming services compete for family-friendly content with big names attached.
This brings together major Hollywood stars for a new animated film from the director of 'The Incredibles.' It shows Netflix continuing to invest in big-budget animated movies with A-list talent to compete with Disney and other studios.
