Woman speaks out after fake taxi driver Barzan Nawshowani gets 8 years for rape
A woman has spoken publicly about being abducted and raped by Barzan Nawshowani, who pretended to be a taxi driver in Glasgow. Nawshowani was sentenced to eight years in prison for the crimes.

A rape survivor identified as Sophie has shared her story with BBC Scotland after her attacker was sentenced to eight years in prison. Barzan Nawshowani abducted and raped the woman after she and a friend flagged down what they thought was a taxi in Glasgow.
The attack happened after Sophie's night out in Glasgow. She and her friend believed they were getting into a legitimate taxi when Nawshowani picked them up.
Sophie told BBC Scotland she believes the eight-year sentence was too short. "Despite the appeal, the charges were abduction and rape. I think those two together, I think it needed to be a lot longer, 15, 16 years," she said.
Fake taxi schemes have become an increasing concern in cities across the UK. Criminals use vehicles that look like legitimate taxis to target vulnerable passengers, especially those traveling alone at night.
This case highlights the dangers of getting into unlicensed vehicles that look like taxis. It shows how predators can exploit people's trust in what appears to be legitimate transportation, especially after nights out.
Details about any appeals process or additional safety measures by Glasgow authorities are still emerging.
